Dublin
Dublin punches well above its weight for a city its size. Georgian doorways line the streets, the Liffey splits the city in two, and there's a pub on nearly every corner — some of them centuries old. The literary history is everywhere (Joyce, Wilde, Yeats all walked these streets), and the locals have a knack for making strangers feel welcome within minutes.

Dublin travel FAQ
How many days do I need in Dublin?
3 days is ideal. Day one: Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Grafton Street, St. Stephen's Green, and Temple Bar in the evening. Day two: Kilmainham Gaol (book tickets online — they sell out), the Guinness Storehouse, and a walk along the Grand Canal. Day three: Phoenix Park (one of Europe's largest), the Little Museum of Dublin, and a proper pub crawl. Add a day for a Howth cliff walk or a trip to Glendalough.
Is Dublin expensive?
Unfortunately yes — it's one of Europe's pricier capitals. A pint runs €6-8, restaurant meals €15-30, and hostels start at €25-40/night. Mid-range hotels are €120-200/night. But there are free things everywhere: walking the Georgian squares, the National Gallery, the Chester Beatty Library. A Dublin Pass can save money if you're hitting multiple paid attractions.
What's the pub scene really like?
Temple Bar is the tourist epicenter — expect crowds and higher prices but good craic. For a more local experience, try The Long Hall on South Great George's Street, Kehoe's on Anne Street, or Mulligan's on Poolbeg Street. Most pubs have live traditional music a few nights a week, especially on weekends. Stag's Head and The Cobblestone in Smithfield are great for trad sessions.
